5 Tips for a Healthy and Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays. There is nothing better than spending time with family and friends while enjoying delicious comfort foods!

However, if you still wan to maintain some of your healthy habits, it is possible to still enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and not feel miserable after overindulging.

Here are 5 tips for a healthier and happy Thanksgiving day:

- Stay Active: Try to incorporate some activity into your Thanksgiving Day. Staying active will not only help you to burn off some calories, but it will give you a boost of energy. Start your day with a walk, run, a TITLE class or any type of exercise and you will be set for all the Thanksgiving delicious food and activities. Playing games are also a great way to stay active while spending time with family and friends.

 

 

- Eat a hearty, healthy breakfast  breakfast: Start your Thanksgiving day with a nutritious meal before going into the big Thanksgiving dinner. Otherwise, chances are you’ll overindulge and not feel so great afterwards.

- Make Your Plate Colorful: The more colorful the food, the better. Which means variety of nutrients and food groups. Turkey is an excellent source of lean protein that will keep you feeling satisfied for longer.

Green beans, Brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, squash, sweet potatoes and salads are all packed with nutrients and fibers, and make great healthy side dishes.

- Stay Hydrated: Thanksgiving weekend is always full of food, desserts and drinks.

Avoid dehydration and to assure your body has all the fluids it needs, make sure you drink  lots of water  to keep your body hydrated during the Thanksgiving weekend.

- Treat Yourself: Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy family and friends, and of course to eat delicious foods!

It is not the day to count calories or macros, but time to enjoy your favorite things - which might include one or even two pieces of  pie.
